consulting careers initiative
The Consulting Careers Initiative (CCI) provides students pursuing a Master of Public Policy (MPP) and a Master of Global Affairs (MGA) degree an opportunity to develop and enhance the skills necessary for a career in consulting. Throughout the year students will be engaged in various events and networking opportunities such as a case competition in partnership with KPMG, resume and interview workshops, and a speaker series with industry professionals. These events will both help prepare you for your internship interviews and will bolster your success in recruitment once you’ve graduated, regardless of whether you decide to pursue consulting as a career path. In addition to providing important career development resources for students, CCI aims to showcase MPP and MGA students’ skills and abilities to prospecting consulting firms. We strive to be innovative in our approach to expand CCI’s network while supporting the prestigious brand of the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy. |
Equity, Diversity and Public Policy Initiative (EDPP)
The Equity, Diversity, and Public Policy Initiative (EDPP) promotes the adoption of an intersectional lens in policy analysis. EDPP is a graduate student-led organization at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy and encourages the discussion of gender and identity-based inequalities in the realm of public policy in collaboration with Munk student leadership initiatives, faculty and administration, our alumni advisory group, and other networks within the University of Toronto landscape. EDPP facilitates a variety of programming throughout the year, including roundtables, networking sessions, and socials organized and led by its Equity Analysts. Our platform provides a chance for Equity Analysts to organize relevant events, engage in thought-leadership, as well as to network with members of the policy community on equity issues. |
Environmental Working Group
The Environmental Working Group (EWG) offers students of public policy and global affairs the opportunity to collaborate, learn, and expand their knowledge and skills around environmental and sustainability issues. This group also aims to expose Munk students to sustainability-related career paths during and after their graduate programs. Over the next eight months, the EWG will collaborate with a range of established Munk School SLIs to create policy-related content on environmental issues and create learning opportunities for careers in sustainability. In its first year as a full-fledged SLI at the Munk School, the EWG plans to raise the profile of environmental and sustainability thinking at the Munk School, revive the working group, and offer a collaborative space to explore these critical issues. |

Indigenous Policy Initiative (IPI)
Mental Health Policy Initiative (MHPI)
The Mental Health Policy Initiative (MHPI) is a student-led organization whose mission is to bring together aspiring policy professionals who are passionate about applying their skills to the mental health domain. We have twin goals: first, we wish to actively foster a “culture of care” at the Munk School through community-building, raising awareness, and holding events for students. Second, we aim to provide students with a space where they can try applying a mental health lens to some of the policy questions they may encounter in both the MPP and MGA programs. Ours is a newer Student Leadership Initiative, but we are building on the successes of our first year in operation and we’d be delighted to welcome interested individuals to our inclusive and growing team! |
Munk School Black Students Association (MSBSA)
The Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy's Black Student Association (MSBSA) is a student-led initiative that seeks to empower Black and radicalized students through advocacy, anti-racism initiatives, promoting allyship and breaking down academic and/or professional barriers. We provide guidance, support, and direction for Black Students in their academic, social, and professional endeavours. This initiative offers inclusive opportunities for leadership, community engagement and networking for racialized students and their allies at Munk, while committing to tackle anti-Black racism and systemic discrimination. As a promoter of allyship in the Munk community, the MSBSA welcomes all people willing to support the success of our mission and overall objectives: |
PATH Career Week
PATH (previously known as Career Week) is a series of events throughout the course of the year, focused on supporting Master of Global Affairs students as they navigate their career journeys. Each month will feature a different sector relating to the field of global affairs, bringing together working professionals, MGA alumni and current MGA students. Through engaging panels, networking opportunities, and workshops, students understand the value of their degree and gain exposure to the diverse opportunities available during the program and after graduation. Through PATH, students make valuable connections, learn how various sectors intersect, and gain insight into emerging trends, opportunities, and challenges in their desired fields. |
Policy Innovation Initiative (Pii)
The Policy Innovation Initiative (Pii) is a student-led think tank focused on generating innovative strategies and solutions to a vast array of emerging policy issues. Pii is committed to building a new generation of public policy professionals with enhanced capacity to address existing and future policy challenges that require ever-evolving, multi-disciplinary, and innovative thinking. By allowing students to produce deliverables based on their interests, Pii equips Master of Public Policy and Master of Global Affairs students with the skills and experiences necessary to practice and imbue innovation in their academic studies and everyday professional work. |
Public Policy and Governance Review (PPGR)
The Public Policy and Governance Review is Munk’s longest-running SLI - for years, it has been the platform for bold and thoughtful student perspectives about the policy issues of our time. The Review offers students an outlet to express their policy passions, a chance to hone their writing skills, an opportunity to delve into new policy topics with support from leading experts, and an amazing group of student collaborators. We meet monthly to share and discuss our ideas over pizza, making your experience with us engaging and rewarding. |
Spectrum
Spectrum aims to help in the support of and professional development of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT+) students and their allies in both the MGA and MPP programs. Spectrum hosts panels, workshops, networking opportunities, and community events throughout the year, both on and off campus, that all are welcome to attend. As well, we collaborate on events and various publications with other groups at Munk and the University of Toronto. |
Global Ideas Institute
Founded in 2010, the Global Ideas Institute (GII) is an initiative of the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy. The GII was conceived by Professor Joseph Wong and Professor Janice Stein to provide intensive research and learning opportunities for secondary students. In our global economy, it is becoming increasingly important for students to learn about the world and to think in a global context. This cutting-edge program provides students with the tools, knowledge, and guidance to develop innovative solutions to complex world issues. Over the course of the year, students gain exposure to leading global experts, develop complex problem-solving skills, and deliver pitches to a panel of distinguished experts. Students receive guidance from University of Toronto experts, community and mentors during this year-long learning process |
